Cedarville University Student Named to Dean's Honor List

The following local residents made the Spring 2019 Dean's List at Georgia Southwestern State University and were among 600 students recognized for scholastic achievement.

Berry College recently welcomed its newest class of graduates.

Twenty-eight Coastal Carolina University students performed in the music department's wind ensemble concert on Friday, April 26, in Wheelwright Auditorium. The performance featured an "American sounds, American voices" theme through seven different songs. The ensemble was under the direction of Garrett Griffin, associate professor of music and director of bands.

Nearly 130 University of North Georgia (UNG) students performed research-based projects and presented their results during the poster sessions March 22 at the 24th Annual Research Conference (ARC) in the Convocation Center on UNG's Dahlonega Campus. Other students participated in panel discussions on topics such as educational experiences and musical research.

Georgia Southern University recently recognized approximately 3,300 students for excellence in academics on the Fall 2018 Dean's List. To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must have at least a 3.5 grade point average and carry a minimum of 12 hours for the semester.

Thirty-six students from Eastern Connecticut State University were inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society on March 3. Through a competitive application process, candidates were evaluated on scholarly success as well as involvement in Eastern's campus and surrounding community.

The following students earned the distinction of Faculty Honors for Fall 2018 at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

More than 1,700 students earned bachelor's degrees from Georgia State University during the Fall 2018 semester, with more than 3,000 students earning degrees at the associate's, bachelor's, master's, professional, specialist and doctoral degree levels.

Berry College recently welcomed its newest class of graduates.

Oglethorpe senior midfielder Topher Marshall received an outstanding cap to his career from the United Soccer Coaches Monday, earning spots on the organization's Scholar All-America and Scholar South All-Region first teams. It marked the second consecutive season in which he earned both honors. The Scholar All-America teams were voted on by a panel of coaches from around the nation while the Scholar All-Region teams were voted on by coaches from around the South region. It also marked the second national postseason honor of the season for Marshall, who took second team all-American honors from the organization in late November. The Stormy Petrel midfielder also garnered South Atlantic All-Region first team accolades around the same time, marking the third time in his career he's made a coaches' All-Region team. He garnered his fourth straight All-SAA first team honor in 2018 and continued his run as the best midfielder in the conference. He finished the season at 0.44 assists per game, putting him atop the league leaderboard in that stat. He also tied for first in the league with seven total assists. Both of those marks placed him sixth in the South Atlantic region. He finished fifth in the SAA in points per game (1.19) and shots per game (2.94), as well as finishing tied for fifth with three game-winning goals. He earned a spot on the SAA all-tournament team for his efforts in that event, which included a golden goal to beat Berry in the semifinal round. He also earned SAA Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 1. Marshall finishes his Oglethorpe career as the most decorated player in program history. He's now the only Petrel men's soccer to player to earn all-America recognition in two separate seasons, having earned All-America, All-Region first team and Scholar All-America first team honors in each of the final two seasons of his career. He won the SAA Offensive Player of the Year award twice and the SAA Newcomer of the Year award his freshman season. The Oglethorpe senior also took part in the most successful four-year stretch in program history. Since 2015, the Petrels have won four straight SAA regular season titles, an SAA tournament championship, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2017. Oglethorpe accrued a 47-13-9 overall record and a 24-1-3 mark in SAA play during Marshall's years on the team. The team currently enjoys a 21-game unbeaten streak in conference regular-season play. The United Soccer Coaches honored 37 student-athletes as Division III men's scholar all-Americans Monday, dispersed over three teams. They also honored 33 players on the scholar South All-Region teams. This year's all-America and scholar all-America teams will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments in January at the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Chicago.

Thirteen students from the University of North Georgia (UNG) have been selected as semifinalists for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, a highly competitive fellowship that enables students to pursue academic endeavors overseas. It is a record number of semifinalists who represent multiple departments, demonstrating the depth of UNG academic programs.

Kennesaw State University congratulates the more than 6,000 students named to the Fall 2018 Dean's List. Students enrolled at least 9 credit hours and with a grade point average of at least 3.5 were named to the list.

Kennesaw State University recently named students to the President's List, in recognition of their academic excellence for the Fall 2018 semester. To achieve this honor, each student must have completed at least 9 semester hours with a term grade point average of 4.0.

Dean's List Fall 2018

JSU named 2,049 students to the President's and Deans' Lists for their outstanding academic performance during the Fall 2018 semester.

The deans of each of UNG's five colleges - the College of Arts & Letters, the College of Education, the College of Health Sciences & Professions, the Mike Cottrell College of Business, and the College of Science & Mathematics - announced the names of those students who made their respective lists for fall 2018. Dean's List recognition is achieved by having at least a 3.5 grade point average, carrying 12 or more credit hours in one semester and having no grade lower than B.

In ceremonies held December 15 at the University of North Georgia, graduating cadets were awarded commissions as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army or Georgia National Guard.
